Questions are used as a specific form of intervention
Questions are powerful in coaching because they trigger an internal search in athletes, so that they can shift perspective, discover information that has yet to be known, speculate & wonder at genuinely transformative steps they have to make
Types of questions.
Clarifying: clearing the way for deeper thinking
Reflective: encouraging the athlete to think & reflect
Summarising: checking the accuracy of the communication & maintain the focus in the conversation
Outcome: Commitment to action. Build on athletes positive strengths is more motivating than tackling weakness.
